Certificate of Merit Meeting

All teachers who are planning to enroll students in the Certificate of Merit program must attend the orientation meeting. There will be two orientation-meeting times offered.

The first is Wednesday, September 13 at 9:30 a.m.
The second is Sunday, September 17 at 4:00 p.m.
Meetings will be held at Lincoln Glen Church, 2700 Booksin Avenue, San Jose 95125.

October 1 – October 31 is the Enrollment period. Enrollment closes at 5PM on October 31.
Upon close of enrollment the parents of your students will be able to access the website and pay the CM fee directly.

November 1 – 10 is the period when a parent can go online and pay the CM enrollment fee. If the fee is NOT paid by November 10 at 5PM, they are automatically dropped from the program.

January 15 is the deadline for entering repertoire for ALL sections.

Morning News). In 2013 Chen won the American Pianists Association’s DeHaan Classical Fellowship, one of the most

lucrat ive and significant prizes avai lable to an American pianist. He also won Third Prize at the 14th Van Cliburn

International Piano Competition, becoming the f irst American to reach the f inal s since 1997. Highlights of Chen’s

2014-15 season include debuts with the Mi lwaukee Symphony Orchest ra, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra at the

Kimmel Center, the symphony orchestras of Hartford, Tucson, Santa Fe, Carmel, and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra.

You are welcomed to attend a sneak preview of Steinway Artist Sandra Wright Shen’s recital. Sandra will talk about some of Debussy preludes and a piece by Spanish composer Granados, which forms a sharp contrast between gentle vs. bold expressiveness, subtle implicit expression vs. passionate extroverted gestures. Interestingly, these pieces were inspired by paintings and images. Come hear how the composers paint with piano!

About Artist-
Sandra Wright Shen has been described as a classical “pianist of the first order” and a “heartstopping beauty”. With her passion, musicality, and inspiration, she aims to move hearts through music. She has appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Chicago Cultural Center, the Frankfurt Cultural Center in Germany, Granada Music Festival, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, and the Taiwan National Concert Hall.
Sandra Shen won first prizes in the France International Piano Competition, Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the Mieczyslaw Munz Piano Competition, the Taiwan National Piano Competition, and the Peabody Frances M. Wentz Memorial Prize. She has recorded three CDs, including her debut recording of Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto. Ms. Shen received her BM and MM in Piano Performance from the Peabody Conservatory, under Ann Schein. Sandra Shen is a Steinway Artist and a resident of Los Altos.

December 9th Harp Ensemble Concert /Luncheon at Lincoln Glen Church


Come to the December 9th Harp Ensemble Concert /Luncheon at Lincoln Glen Church (2700 Booksin Avenue, San Jose) at 11:00 AM.

Listen to some lovely Christmas harp music performed by the  Harpers Hall ensemble led by Verlene Schermer. Verlene is  a 1997 prizewinner of the Lyon & Healy Pop & Jazz Harpfest and a sought after harp player and singer who gives concerts and workshops throughout the country and in Europe. The Harpers Hall have played regularly for Christmas concerts at St. Joseph’s Basilica in downtown San Jose, and at numerous celtic festivals in California.They have produced several CDs, including a Christmas CD with some of the pieces you will hear at the concert. (You may see some familiar MTAC faces playing with the group.)There will be an opportunity for you to play a harp afterwards, if you like. At 12:00 we will have  a luncheon at the church. Please email Susan Nguyen at susan@musikeys.com to let her know you would like to join us for lunch. The cost for the lunch is $10 per person  and it will be collected at the location for those staying for lunch. (A check made out to MTAC Santa Clara would be easiest.)  There is no charge for the concert, itself, as usual.

About Steinway Artist-

Dr. Hans Boepple

American pianist Hans Boepple is an artist who shows rich musicality along side stunning technical command.  His debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at age 10 set in motion collaboration with orchestras and conductors of international reputation. Boepple is guest artist on solo and orchestral concert series across the United States.


A Steinway International Artist, Hans Boepple has received numerous performance honors, most notably First Prize in the International J.S. Bach Competition (Washington, DC). He is a prizewinner in the Kosciuszko Chopin (NYC), the MTNA national competitions and a six-time winner of the Coleman Chamber Music Award (Los Angeles). National Public Radio and Voice of America have broadcast his live performances.


Mr. Boepple earned both a Bachelor and Master of Music in Piano Performance and received the honor of a Performer’s Certificate from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he studied with renowned American pianist Sidney Foster. A full-time member of the piano faculty at the IU l974-78, Boepple joined the faculty of Santa Clara University (CA) in 1978.


In demand as an adjudicator, lecturer, and master teacher, Mr. Boepple balances his performance calendar with being a dedicated teacher. His students have earned more than 160 state, national, and international awards. He has received the Master Teacher Certificate from the Music Teachers National Association and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Association of Professional Music Teachers.  In addition to touring with a full solo recital program every season, Hans Boepple has been a regular guest artist at the Portland Piano International, World Piano Pedagogy Conference, the IU Piano Academy and California Summer Music.
